Canada_LS1: Emerald Lake, Yoho N.P.

Emerald Lake is the largest of Yoho's 61 lakes and ponds. The lake is surrounded by the mountains of the President Range as well as Mount Burgess and Wapta Mountain.

The Rocky Mountains stretch more than 3,000 miles (4,830 km) from British Columbia to New Mexico. In Canada the mountain range contains Banff, Jasper, Kootenay, Warterton and Yoho National Parks.

Jasper National Park is the largest national park in the Canadian Rocky Mountains covering an area of 10,878 square kilometers. The Park contains large amounts of Wildlife including Black and Grizzly Bears, bighorn sheep, mountain goat, elk.

The Athabasca Glacier is one of the six principal 'toes' of the Columbia Icefield. The glacier currently recedes at a rate of 2-3 meters per year and has receded more than 1.5 km in the past 125 years losing over half of its volume in the same period.

The columbia icefield lies across the border of the Banff and Jasper National Parks. It is around 325 square kilometers with the maximum depth of 365 meters. The icefield is replenished by approximately 7 meters of snow that falls annually.

The Athabasca glacier is approximately 6 km long, covers an area of 6 km², and is measured to be between 90 meters and 300 meters thick and "flows" downhill at a rate of several centimeters per day.

Canada_LS7: Lake Moraine, Banff National Park.

Moraine Lake is a glacially-fed lake in Banff National Park and is located 14 kilometres from the Village of Lake Louise. It is situated in the Valley of 10 peaks at an elevation of 6,183 feet and has a surface area of 1/2 auare kilometre.

The view of the lake from the top of the rockpile is one of the most photographed locations in all of Canada and is known as the Twenty Dollar View, due to the fact that Moraine Lake was featured on the reverse side of the 1969 and 1979 issues of the Canadien twenty dollar bill.


 

Canada_LS9: Athabasca Falls, Jasper National Park.

Athabasca Falls in Jasper National Park is a waterfall on the upper Athabasca River, approximately 30 kilometers south of the town site of Jasper. It is one of the most visited waterfalls on the Icefields Parkway due to the close proximity of the falls to the road. Whilst not high, at 23 meters, the falls are popular to the large volumes of water that cascade into the gorge below.

Canada_LS10: Peyto Lake, Banff National Park.

Peyto Lake is a glacier fed lake located at an elevation of 1,869m in Banff National Park. Rock flour from the surrounding glaciers flows into the lake. These suspended rock particles give the lake a bright, turquoise colour.


Canada_LS11: Mount Fryatt, Jasper National Park.

Mount Fryatt is Alberta's 26th highest peak located in Jasper National Park. It was named after Captain Charles Fryatt, a British merchant seaman who was executed by the germans during the 2nd world war.

Banff National Park is Canada's oldest National Park which was established in 1885. The park is located in the province of Alberta and encompasses 6,641 square kilometers of mountainous terrain with a large number of glaciers, forest and lakes.

Lake Mistaya is 72 Kilometers from Lake Louise, this lake is located right off the Icefields Highway! Beautifully back dropped by the Rockies it shimmers with blue and green hues that make the Alberta Rockies famous.

Canada_LS15 Takakkaw Falls, Yoho National Park.

Takakkaw Falls are located in Yoho National Park in British Columbia. The falls are 384 meters from its base making it the 2nd highest waterfall in Western Canada.
